this is our mountain.....Mt. Diablo.
roughly 3600 ft. and a 10 minute drive away, we live just to the left of this shot...and we see this beauty out of our window at the top of our stairs.....
doug, murphy and i went camping here
over the past couple of days.
a first for us, which is amazing, since
it's in our 'backyard'!
we camped in lucky site #13 in the live oak campground.
the fire danger is set at HIGH right now on the mountain,
so we were not allowed a campfire.....
which, honestly, i don't know how we would have managed anyway,
in this....
the trails were awesome, as were the views.
...see the little person in white above? i also climbed to the top of this outcropping.
it's called sentinel rock and has hand holds around the top few feet...
still i felt as though i was going to 'lose my lunch'.
also on the way the way to the climb, there was a rattlesnake on the trail,
about 2-3 in. in diameter...
..i didn't hang around long enough to see the head or the tail as it slithered across the trail!
a short hike from our campsite, i came across some grinding rocks
that the miwok indians had made. they ground acorns and other seeds
on top of the sandstone and over time made holes in the stones.
a few drawbacks to camping on the devil's mountain:
no smoking
no campfires
no alcoholic beverages
no dogs on trails...
..we followed one rule..
murphy, left behind, in camp.
