what is fruit of the noodle

jazz musician lyle ritz on his ukelele playing: "when i was just playing around, plinking sounds on the ukelele i called it noodling; when that turned into a hit song i called the hit 'fruit of the noodle'".

i fill notebooks, scrap pieces of paper, old receipts, our phonebooks, anything i can get my hands on, with doodles all day, everyday. i suppose i should call my finished pieces 'fruit of the doodle', but i kind of enjoy the 'food theme'!
